Antigen Preparation
A synthetic 40 amino acids peptide corresponding to N-terminus of Amyloid-beta (1-40)
Background
"Beta Amyloid precursor protein (APP) can be cleaved by secretases to form a number of peptides. Some of these peptides are secreted and can bind to the acetyltransferase complex APBB1/TIP60 to promote transcriptional activation, while others form the protein basis of the amyloid plaques found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer disease. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease and cerebroarterial amyloidosis (cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Aß (1-42), a major component of amyloid plaques, accumulates in neurons of Alzheimer’s disease brains. Biochemical analysis of the amyloid peptides isolated from Alzheimer’s disease brain indicates that Aß (1-42) is the principal phenomena associated with senile plaque amyloids, while Aß (1-40) is more abundant in cerebrovascular amyloid deposition."
